The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to supporting our dedicated emergency services who put their lives on the line when protecting Tasmanian lives and property.
I am very pleased to announce that 25 new fire trucks will join the firefighting fleet from August this year, with an additional 70 to be rolled out over the next four years as part of the Government’s fire truck replacement program.
All the new trucks are being designed and manufactured in Tasmania by TFS Engineering Services, which will support local jobs in line with our Buy Local Policy.
Total funding of $14 million has been allocated over the next four years to deliver the replacement program.
The new fire trucks will provide the community with the highest level of protection, as well as increasing safety for firefighters in emergency situations.
The new appliances are fitted with state-of-the-art crew safety systems for protection in the event of crew entrapment and burn-over, including personal protective blankets, radiant heat shields and protective window glass that provides greater levels of safety from radiant heat.
They will replace 79 light tankers that are between 26 and 32 years of age.
Anyone who serves the TFS deserves the highest praise, and Tasmania’s brave firefighters can be confident the Government is committed to providing them with the tools they need to keep both themselves and the community as safe as possible.
