2017 Tasmanian Training Awards winners

STRICTLY EMBARGOED UNTIL 12:00AM SATURDAY, 2 SEPTEMBER 2017.

Last night’s 2017 Tasmanian Training Awards in Hobart were a chance to celebrate our best and brightest trainees, apprentices, vocational students and trainers.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to vocational training as it strengthens Tasmanian businesses and gives job-seekers real skills for real jobs, which is why we have a target to increase the number of apprentices and trainees by 40 per cent by 2025.

The awards showcase the success stories achieved through the vocational education and training sector while celebrating the diversity and career pathways available.

This year 14 category winners were named from 72 finalists out of over 180 entries.

I am delighted to announce that this year’s Apprentice of the Year is Ashton Brown from Pipers River, an employee of Farm Machinery Longford.

Tasmania’s 2017 Trainee of the Year is Emily Nixon of The Glen, employed by MEGT at Roberts Limited in Launceston.

The 2017 Vocational Student of the Year is Colin Curlewis of Rokeby, an employee of Hansen Yuncken.

I would like to congratulate all the award winners from last night for their outstanding success. Award winners will have the opportunity to compete in the 2017 Australian Training Awards in Canberra in November.

The Tasmanian Training Awards are proudly presented by the Department of State Growth: Skills Tasmania with the support of our industry and education and training partners.
