2017 National Women in Resources Awards

The National Women in Resources Awards held in Launceston this evening highlight the valuable and growing role women are playing in the modern mining and minerals sector from the boardroom to the coal face and every facet in between.

It is fantastic to have these important awards held in Tasmania, with sponsorship from the Tasmanian Government.

These important awards recognise and celebrate the contributions and achievements of women in Australia’s traditionally male-dominated resources sector.

It is important because we know that a diverse workforce delivers huge benefits and opens up new opportunities and perspectives.

The national resources industry has set a target of increasing female participation to at least 20 per cent in non-traditional roles by 2020.

I would like to congratulate all nominees, and the winners to be announced tonight, on their fantastic work in leading the way on female participation in the mining industry.
