On behalf of the Liberal Government and the Minister for Police and Emergency Management, I was pleased to join the Tasmania Fire Service today at the commissioning of 14 new heavy tanker fire trucks, designed and built locally by TFS personnel.
Extensive consultation was undertaken with national fire appliance manufacturers, interstate fire agencies and Tasmanian firefighters to produce the state of the art appliances.
The capabilities of the TFS have been significantly bolstered by the new trucks, which have a range of enhanced safety specifications including radiant heat shields, personal protective blankets, air bags and the ability to start the pump from within the cabin.
The Tasmanian prototype is already receiving interest from across Australia and I applaud the TFS for its proactive approach in ensuring our firefighters and communities are safe.
