100 Years of women in policing

International Women’s Day marks an appropriate day to celebrate 100 years since Tasmania Police first welcomed women into the force.

As the Minister for Police, I am very proud to celebrate the momentous achievement of Kate Campbell, who became the first woman to join Tasmania Police to help address the wellbeing and offending of women and children.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of gender parity and Tasmania Police is leading the way, with over 400 female police officers and numerous women employed in specialist roles.

With the last round of Police recruits having an equal 50 per cent of men and women inducted, it’s true recognition that policing is an excellent career path for women.
