100 Days & Counting: ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

This afternoon I was pleased to launch Tasmania's Catch the Fever marketing campaign, and announce the official 100 day countdown until the first of Tasmania's three ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 matches.

Catch the Fever has been created to maximise the opportunities created by our state hosting the largest sporting event in the world for 2015.

We want to ensure every Tasmanian gets excited about this once in a generation, world-class event at one of Australia's most iconic sporting venues, Bellerive Oval.

Beginning today and running until March 2015, Catch the Fever will include locally produced television, radio and print advertising, a website and social media campaign as well as Metro Tasmania bus branding.

I was also proud to share the news that local company Tas Vacations has been announced as one of only six Australian travel agencies allowed to sell and market official ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 travel packages.

Tasmania is now firmly in the international spotlight and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will again draw the eyes of the world to our state, with its huge broadcast reach.

This exposure, and the expected flood of interstate and international visitors to Tasmania, will provide a significant boost to our tourism sector and help us achieve our goal of attracting 1.5 million visitors per year to the state by 2020.

I encourage Tasmanians to embrace our love of cricket, support this important event and ensure our visitors experience a warm welcome and our first-class hospitality.

The three Cricket World Cup matches at the redeveloped Bellerive Oval are:

Saturday 7 March:                 Zimbabwe v Ireland

Wednesday 11 March:          Sri Lanka v Scotland

Saturday 14 March:               Australia v Scotland
