Today’s announcement that Perth based data centre services company Red Cloud will build a $40 million centre in Tasmania is fantastic news and further evidence of the growing confidence in the Tasmanian economy.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is working to grow Tasmania’s ICT sector and build a connected and empowered economy to drive economic growth and create jobs.
We went to the election with a four-year goal to secure on-island data storage and a Tier 3 data centre and we have been actively engaging with the sector, including Red Cloud, to help deliver this outcome.
Tasmania’s cool climate, clean hydro power and growing ICT sector gives the state a natural advantage when it comes to attracting outsourced infrastructure and Cloud computing.
According to Red Cloud, Tasmania is the perfect location for the investment.
This announcement follows the release this week of the Government’s Tasmanian Cloud Policy. This policy details to industry how agencies will move to whole-of-government on-island cloud-based services. The move to the Tasmanian Cloud will bring a range of benefits including improved interoperability between staff in different agencies and departments.
The Government’s clear and ongoing commitment to the Tasmanian Cloud, combined with our close engagement with industry, gives ICT businesses certainty and confidence.
We continue to pursue a broad range of initiatives in the ICT space from primary school STEM programs such as Code Club, through to the Digital Ready for Business program.
