The Hodgman Liberal Government has committed $1.5 million to the Circular Head Regional Economic Working Group to assist the community and workers impacted by the impending closure of Murray Goulburn’s Edith Creek facility.
The Working Group, which met for the first time today in Smithton, will support the Circular Head community by assisting the development of new job creation industries and provide training and support to affected workers.
The Tasmanian Government will stand by the North-West and Circular Head communities and the workers impacted by this devastating decision.
We have worked quickly and appropriately to establish the Circular Head Regional Economic Development Working Group and Braddon MHA Joan Rylah has been appointed chair and will drive a coordinated response.
The terms of reference focus on supporting opportunities that fast track economic development and job creation across industry growth sectors, delivering local, sustainable employment through innovation, investment and jobs in the Circular Head region.
The recently released Sustainable Murchison 2040 Community Plan will also guide the Working Group’s deliberations. This plan was developed through extensive community and stakeholder consultation, research and analysis and it represents the Murchison region’s agreed opportunities in the short to medium term.
The Working Group comprises local, state and federal government, community and industry representatives with the mandate to review and recommend immediate actions.
