Tasmania’s economic and financial position has improved immeasurably in recent years. This hard won improvement has provided the capacity for the Government to increase funding to vital community services to record levels. It is only through the Government’s strong and effective financial and economic management that the Government will be able to continue to improve the services which matter most to our community.
The role of Treasury is central to achieving this balance.
It is also central to addressing issues which go to the very heart of our future such as the impact of demographic change, the maintenance of a competitive economy, improving our productivity levels, improving our infrastructure and making sure that Tasmania gets its fair share of funding from the Commonwealth Government.
Treasury also plays an essential role in ensuring the accountability of the Government through the preparation and publication of important financial and other information. The Government is committed to continuing to achieve the highest possible standards of financial accountability to Parliament and the Tasmanian Community.
