Sport and Recreation
Sport, recreation and physical activity is essential for both physical and mental health and well-being and plays an important part in preventative health programs.
It has a key role in the State Government’s goal of building stronger, more connected communities, where people of all ages are able to take full advantage of the opportunities that come from our great lifestyle.
The Government recognises that people are healthier and more productive when they are more physically active and engaged in community activities.
That’s where it is determined to make a difference, for those who want to be physically active right through to those who aspire to compete at the elite level.
The past two State Budgets has seen an unprecedented package of more than $20 million provided through Sport and Recreation Tasmania for new and upgraded sport and recreation infrastructure throughout the State. Funding for sport and recreation grants programs have also been increased by 50 per cent with priority given to new and innovative initiatives aimed at being sustainable in the long term.
This will also significantly add to the opportunities for sport and recreation and physical activity by breaking down the barriers to participation and reinforces the Government’s commitment to helping make our community healthier and more connected.
