Corrections and Consumer Protection
Corrections and Consumer Protection is a new portfolio that aims to provide advice and services to people found guilty of offences to achieve socially responsible behaviour and to also provide protection to consumers by encouraging a fair and equitable market place.
Community Corrections will enable people who are found guilty of offences to achieve socially responsible behaviour thereby reducing re-offending and contributing to a safer society within the family and the community.
This will be facilitated by the Tasmanian Prison Service who is focused on rehabilitation and helping prisoners integrate back into society on release from custody. The prison service provides a large number of education programs, sport and recreation and other activities and provides those in custody with opportunities for rehabilitation, personal development and community engagement.
Likewise Community Corrections is focused on managing offenders on probation, parole and community service orders.
Community Corrections works with offenders on community based orders in ways that aim to reduce re-offending and contribute to a safer society. Community Corrections provide the Courts and Parole Board with assessments and reports, supervise offenders on probation, parole and community service orders, case manage offenders on probation and parole orders and facilitate group programs aimed at reducing re-offending
Consumer protection will encourage a fair, safe and equitable market place by promoting social justice through advice and information to both consumers and business regarding their rights and responsibilities.
