The Bellerive Boardwalk Youth Festival will be the official launch event for this year's National Youth Week Events in Tasmania.

The Acting Minister for Community Development, Michelle O'Byrne, said National Youth Week was a great opportunity to recognise the contribution young people make to their communities.

"National Youth Week is a fantastic opportunity for young Tasmanians to showcase their talents and take part in activities that engage the whole community," Ms O'Byrne said.

"The Bellerive Boardwalk Youth Week Festival is a great event, and the strong involvement of local youths in every aspect of it was a major reason why it was selected to launch our Youth Week activities for 2013."

Ms O'Byrne praised the work of the Clarence City Council's Youth Network Advisory Group (YNAG) in coordinating the event, and working with local young people.

"It is inspiring to see young people actively embrace a leadership role within a community," she said.

"From its inception, YNAG has contributed greatly to the Clarence district, and the community are all the better for their efforts."

YNAG was established during National Youth Week in 2000 and is made up of young people from schools in the Clarence municipality and the wider community. The representatives identify key issues affecting young people in their region and raise awareness of these issues through events and projects.

Gavin Riley, the Youth Participation Officer with the Clarence City Council, said that YNAG members were very excited about the news that they had been selected to launch National Youth Week in Tasmania.

"YNAG is an enthusiastic and active group in the Clarence community and the event it has planned will be a great day for young people and their families to attend," said Mr Riley.

"Held on the Bellerive Boardwalk, the event will include musical and dance performances, interactive activities and information stalls for young people and their families and of course food stalls and a BBQ."

YNAG has received support for the event through a National Youth Week Community Grant, sponsored by the Tasmanian and Commonwealth Governments and a National Youth Week Youthbeyondblue Grant.

National Youth Week 2013 will run from 5 to 14 April 2013.
