Wightman newest disability champion Fri 5 October 2012 Cassy O'Connor Minister for Human Services The Minister for Human Services, Cassy O'Connor, has congratulated Attorney-General Brian Wightman on his appointment as the newest Champion Minister for people with disability. In the role, Mr Wightman will be the Champion Minister for law and justice - working with his ministerial colleagues from across the country to ensure the interests of people with disability remain a high priority within those portfolios. The role also sees Mr Wightman support the implementation of the National Disability Strategy within his portfolio areas. "In the time I've worked with Brian, he has shown himself to be a tireless advocate for vulnerable Tasmanians," Ms O'Connor said. "As Attorney-General he's shown a genuine commitment to protecting the rights of others, and I'm sure he will be an excellent Champion Minister for Australians living with disability, their families and their carers. "I congratulate him on his appointment, and look forward to working with him to promote awareness of the issues facing Tasmanians living with disability."
