Weak and Negative Liberals Talk Tasmania Down Mon 20 August 2012 Michelle O'Byrne Leader of Government Business The Leader of Government Business in the Lower House, Michelle O'Byrne, today challenged Liberal MP Michael Ferguson to show where the State Liberals had been talking up Tasmania's positives. Ms O'Byrne said Mr Ferguson, during an ABC radio interview today, had again reverted to type in defending Tony Abbott who, like all Liberals, is obsessed with talking Tasmania down at every opportunity. "It is disgraceful that Mr Ferguson tries to pretend the Liberals are interested in 'seeing Tasmania being proud of its achievements'. "It is a blatant falsehood. "The Liberals are only interested in talking this State down because they want stop Tasmanians being confident and scare them into voting for the Liberal Party. "It is nothing but politically-motivated doomsaying. Talking it down and hoping it stays down. "I'd like to hear Mr Ferguson explain how his negative-at-all-costs criticism of Tasmania's employment this morning fits with his desire to talk up positives. "If he wasn't consumed by his shallow political negativity, he could have spoken about the fact that just last week, the NAB monthly business survey showed that Tasmanian businesses were the most confident in the country, with confidence increasing 16 per cent. "Or he could have spoken about how Tasmania's housing sector is showing signs of recovery with three consecutive months of increased new home loans - bucking a six-month national decline. "The question for Mr Ferguson is that if he wants to talk up positives - why doesn't he? "The fact is Tony Abbott has shown the Liberals' true colours: they see Tasmania as a political punching bag, and talking up this State will be the last thing they'll ever do. "They do not have this State's best interests at heart - they want to see Tasmanian business suffering, they want to see Tasmanians feeling bad about their prospects."That's their political motivation - weak and negative at all costs," Ms O'Byrne said.
