Tribute to former Sorell Council Mayor Fri 21 September 2012 Bryan Green Acting Premier The Minister for Local Government Bryan Green has paid tribute to outgoing Sorell Council Mayor Carmel Torenius who announced her resignation earlier this week. Mr Green said that Mrs Torenius should be commended for her 22 years service as an elected representative of Sorell Council. "Carmel was Mayor for 17 years which is a great achievement and makes here one of the longest serving female mayors in Tasmania," Mr Green said. Mr Green thanked Mrs Torenius for her commitment and contribution to the Sorell community and to Tasmania's Local Government sector in general. "Carmel's decision to leave is obviously a personal one and I wish her all the very best for the future," Mr Green said. The Council has advised the Electoral Commission of Mrs Torenius' resignation and the by-election process has been initiated.
