Tasmanian farmer appointed to Climate Action Council Mon 1 October 2012 Cassy O'Connor Minister for Climate Change Tasmanian poultry producer Robert Nichols has been appointed to the state's Climate Action Council, the Minister for Climate Change, Cassy O'Connor, announced today. Ms O'Connor said Mr Nichols experience in primary production and renewable energy would complement the Council's already high level of expertise. "Robert has a strong track record as manager of his own business, and as a leader in climate change adaptation," she said. "He's the sole director of Nichols Poultry, a company that produces around a third of the state's chicken and poultry meat, directly employing approximately 100 people. "Five years ago, he also installed a medium-scale wind turbine to generate half of the power requirements of the Nichols Poultry processing factory. "This move led to Robert forming Blowing in the Wind Pty Ltd, which specialises in the procurement, construction, service and maintenance of medium-scale wind turbine generators. "I'm pleased we have someone of Robert's knowledge-base and experience complementing the already high level of skills and expertise on the Climate Action Council, and look forward to his contribution to the ongoing debate on climate change adaptation." Ms O'Connor said the Tasmanian Climate Action Council is chaired by Professor Lesley Hughes, an ecologist in the Department of Biological Sciences at Macquarie University and expert on the impacts of climate change on species and ecosystems.
