Rockliff should apologise for offensive comments

Minister for Community Development

The Minister for Community Development, Cassy O'Connor, today called on Deputy Liberal Leader Jeremy Rockliff to apologise for his offensive comments regarding reproductive health.

"As the Liberal Party's Health Spokesman, Mr Rockliff has done Tasmanian women a terrible disservice with his arrogant and dismissive comments," she said.

"I would find those comments offensive on any day, but for him to seek to trivialise the issue on International Women's Day demonstrates just how out of touch Mr Rockliff is.

"The right to determine reproductive health is a fundamental right for women.

"I call on both Liberal Leader Will Hodgman and the Liberal Party's Community Development Spokeswoman Elise Archer to show their support for women's rights by denouncing Mr Rockliff's comments.

"And Mr Rockliff should have the common decency to apologise for attempting to belittle an issue of such importance to Tasmanian women."
