Craig Farrell

Member for Derwent

The Labor Member for Derwent, Craig Farrell, today launched the 2012 Community Achievement Awards, encouraging Tasmanians to nominate people or community groups that have made a significant contribution.

Mr Farrell said the Awards were a fantastic way of recognising the work of individuals and community groups that have made a difference to their local community

"We have a tremendous sense of community pride and community spirit here in Tasmania," he said.

"These Awards are about encouraging and supporting those people, those businesses and those community and service groups that make a difference in our lives.

"It's a chance to celebrate their work, and encourage others to follow their lead."

Mr Farrell said the eight awards categories this year are:

  • Tamar Valley Dairy Business Enterprise Award;
  • MAIB Disability Achievement Award;
  • Volunteering Tasmania Volunteer Management Award;
  • Ricoh Business Centre Environment and Sustainability Award;
  • Heather and Christopher Chong Outstanding Achiever Community Service Award;
  • Prime Super Events and Tourism Award;
  • Angove Family Winemakers Primary Industries and Agriculture Award; and
  • Howrah Plumbing Community of the Year Award.

"I'm sure we all know a person or a group that has worked tirelessly to make their community a better place to live," he said.

"I would encourage all Tasmanians to show their support for those special individuals or groups by nominating them for this year's awards."

Nominations for this year's awards close on July 24., with the Gala Presentation Dinner to be held on October 20th.
