Next Stage for Housing Tasmania's Energy Champions Sat 28 July 2012 Cassy O'Connor Minister for Human Services The Minister for Human Services, Cassy O'Connor, today announced the next stage of Housing Tasmania's "Energy Champions" program with a tender to be advertised in Tasmanian newspapers on Saturday 28 July, 2012. "Building on the successful 100 Energy Champions pilot program we are now getting ready to roll out the next stage of Energy Champions to 1500 public housing homes," Ms O'Connor said. "Survey results from100 Energy Champions demonstrated that after an energy assessment and energy efficiency upgrade tenants were saving an average of $300 per year. "The next stage of Energy Champions will include a range of energy efficiency upgrades such as installation of energy-saving light globes; draught proofing doors, windows and exhaust fans; new energy efficient shower heads; insulation of hot water cylinders and sealing of internal wall vents. "It will target tenants who are single pensioners, unemployed or on youth allowance, low income families, and households that include people with a disability.
