New research to support Tasmanian tourism operators Wed 22 August 2012 Scott Bacon Minister for Tourism Local tourism operators are set to benefit from new research aimed at informing us about how Tasmania is viewed as a holiday destination around the nation. The Minister for Tourism, Scott Bacon, today said the Tourism Info Monitor - announced as part of the 2012-13 State Budget - would provide a regular snapshot of changes in the characteristics, behaviours, perceptions, motivations and intentions of travelling Australians. "The TIM is a monthly survey of around 500 Australian travellers who have either travelled in the last 12 months, or intend to travel over the next 12 months," he said. "There is a particular focus on travellers who are considering coming to Tasmania." Mr Bacon said the information would be used to help tourism operators with their business and marketing decisions. "Tourism Tasmania is now holding workshops around the state to help local operators get a better understanding of how this research can benefit their business," he said. Mr Bacon said 14 workshops would be held around the State over the next few months, with the first session held in Swansea yesterday. "These workshops are an excellent opportunity for businesses to hear about this exciting initiative first hand, and I would encourage all operators to attend," he said. Workshops will be held in Scottsdale, Geeveston, the Tasman Peninsula, Launceston, Stanley, Wynyard, Hobart, Hamilton, Oatlands, Devonport, Cradle Mountain and Queenstown.
