Minister for Community Development

The Minister for Community Development, Cassy O'Connor, today praised the work of the Hobart Mums Network in helping support families with toddlers.

Ms O'Connor today attended the official opening of the Hobart Mums Network's 'Haven', a place where mums, dads and their children can take part in fun activities, as well as relax with a cuppa during a trip to the city.

"Heading into the city with a small child can sometimes be a draining experience, and being able to stop somewhere to have a break can be really valuable," she said.

"And that's what the Hobart Mums Network is offering through this Haven - a place where mums and dads can take part in fun activities, like a book club, craft circle or zumba class, or just stop and enjoy a cup of coffee and some good company.

"At the Haven, toddlers will also be able to play, draw and have their own time out from the monotony of accompanying their parents shopping."

Ms O'Connor also paid tribute to the Hobart Mums Network's founder, Christine Jolly.

"Christine started the Hobart Mums Network with the aim of helping to supporting local mothers and creating a welcoming community for families across Hobart," she said.

"The fact that the Network now has some 2,700 followers after only 12 months is a testament to the important role this group is playing in helping foster a community of mums and give them a forum where they can share their experiences and develop meaningful friendships."
