More Gunns bashing from the Liberals Mon 1 October 2012 Lara Giddings Premier The Premier, Lara Giddings, said the Liberal Party continued to use the collapse of Gunns Limited as a political football. Ms Giddings said while it was highly likely that the State Government would be a Gunns' creditor, the Department of Treasury and receivers were still working to assess the extent of the liability. "Peter Gutwein has displayed a worrying lack of understanding about how the receivership process works," Ms Giddings said. "It is hardly surprising that just days since receivers were appointed to Gunns they would still be working to determine what is owed to a range of creditors. "Unlike Mr Gutwein, my primary concern has been to see that Gunns workers receive their full entitlements and that contractors are supported through this process. "Is Mr Gutwein suggesting the State Government should be treated any differently than the rest of Gunns' creditors, including many Tasmanian small businesses? "It says a lot that Mr Gutwein has completely ignored these people and is instead trying to score political points from this distressing situation. "This confirms once again that the Liberal Party is crying crocodile tears over the collapse of Gunns and is only interested in using the company and its workers as political pawns."
