Momentum campaign has no effect on power prices Mon 28 May 2012 Bryan Green Minister for Energy and Resources The Minister for Energy Bryan Green said today a marketing campaign by Hydro Tasmania's interstate retailer Momentum will have no impact on power prices in Tasmania. "The Government is taking real action to limit power price increases and the campaign by Momentum will not affect energy costs for Tasmanian consumers," Mr Green said. "Power prices to non-contestable customers in Tasmania are set by the economic regulator and not subject to competition. "The Government will introduce competition and choice for Tasmanian consumers as part of our energy reforms including the regulation of wholesale energy prices. "Mr Green described comments by Kim Booth as an uniformed rant. "The benefits from Momentum's business in the national electricity market will be returned in the form of dividends to the State which helps fund services like hospitals, schools and law and order," Mr Green said.
