Libs taskforce highlights lack of confidence in Hodgman Sun 26 August 2012 Lara Giddings Premier Tony Abbott has so little faith in Opposition Leader Will Hodgman and his Treasury Spokesman Peter Gutwein that he has refused to appoint them to his Party's Tasmanian economic taskforce, Premier Lara Giddings said today. Ms Giddings said the Federal Opposition Leader's decision to snub Mr Hodgman and his Shadow Treasurer, showing the Party remained firmly in the grip of Senator Eric Abetz. "It's absolutely extraordinary that the Federal Liberals have so little faith in Will Hodgman and Peter Gutwein that they had no other choice but to exclude them from their very own taskforce," she said. "Clearly, they don't believe he has a grasp of the issues facing Tasmania, and would instead prefer to hand the reins to Senator Abetz." Ms Giddings said she was alarmed by the Liberal Party's continued refusal to rule out changes to the GST that would have a devastating impact on Tasmania's economy. "Yesterday, Tony Abbott was given the chance to clearly state his support for Tasmania's fair share of GST revenue and rule out changes that would rip out up to $700 million in revenue from our economy," she said. "But, again, all we heard from Mr Abbott was equivocation. "In contrast, Tasmania's State and Federal Labor MPs are united in their support for the current system, and for maintaining our fair share - a position that has been supported by the Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan."
