Landholders invited to pest management forum Fri 12 October 2012 Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment Best practice in managing weeds, browsing animals and other pests will be outlined at a forum in the State's North West next week. Landholders are invited to the free event hosted by the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE) at the Elliott Research Station on Thursday 18 October at 11am. DPIPWE's Regional Invasive Species Coordinator, Kiowa Fenner, said the forum would showcase best practice pest management techniques and the latest information on game and weed management and the Fox Eradication Program. "Highlights will be the Browsing Animal Management Program (BAMP) which provides a range of viable options for land managers to deal with damage by Bennett's wallabies, rufous wallabies and brushtail possums," Mrs Fenner said. "Information will be available on biological control on ragwort by John Ireson from the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture and a weed hygiene trailer will be on display." The forum will also provide an opportunity to discuss operations planned by the Fox Eradication Program. Fox baiting operations are underway in the region as part of a coordinated eradication effort designed to prevent foxes from establishing in Tasmania. Mrs Fenner said it was vital for the community to be informed and recognise threats to the environment from serious threats like foxes and weeds. The Elliott Research Station is in Nunns Rd. Lunch will be provided and those attending should RSVP by phoning 6421 7601 by Monday 14 October. For more information contact 6421 7637 or visit www.dpipwe.tas.gov.au/invasivespecies
