Land hand back bill tabled Tue 19 June 2012 Cassy O'Connor Minister for Aboriginal Affairs A bill to return to parcels of land to the Aboriginal community has been tabled in State Parliament today, ahead of its anticipated debate later this week. The Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Cassy O'Connor, said the amendments to the Aboriginal Lands Act 1995 would see land at larapuna (the Eddystone Point Lighthouse Historic Site) in the North East and Rebecca Creek in the North West returned to the Aboriginal community under the management of the State's Aboriginal Land Council. "The bill represents a small, but important step forward on the path to reconciliation," Ms O'Connor said. "These two parcels of land are places of deep cultural significance to the Aboriginal community, and it's been a privilege to work with the community to progress the return of this land." Ms O'Connor said she was committed to working with the Aboriginal community, Members of Parliament and the Aboriginal Affairs Sub-Committee of Cabinet to further the cause of reconciliation.
