The Premier and Minister for the Arts, Lara Giddings, congratulated the Hobart Jazz Club and its partners on organising another vibrant musical festival, as she opened the Hot August Jazz Festival in North Hobart today.

"Hot August Jazz is a celebration of the amazing musicians we have here in Tasmania, involving over 40 bands in seven venues in North Hobart," Ms Giddings said.

"The festival is a free community event, so everyone can join in and enjoy a diverse range of jazz music including traditional, modern, swing and blues".

Ms Giddings congratulated the Hobart Jazz Club for bringing some of Tasmania's best jazz musicians to the festival, with the support of local venues.

"This year the Hobart Jazz Club has brought two new local business partners to help the festival grow.

"Guy Marquis Pty Ltd and TasGas have joined forces with Hot August Jazz to inject an additional $14,000 for this year's event.

"The Government also provides funding through the Premier's Arts Partnership Fund, with support from our corporate partner Nekon Pty Ltd.

"This event highlights the great talent we have here in Tasmania, and provides a fantastic opportunity for Tasmanians to see some of their favourite musicians, as well as be introduced to new acts.

"Congratulations to the Hobart Jazz club and their partners for organising this year's event."
