The Minister for Education and Skills, Nick McKim, said today he remained committed to working with the Australian Government to implement the Gonski Report into school funding.

 

"I am working constructively with my Federal counterpart Peter Garrett on developing the principles in the Gonski Report," Mr McKim said.

 

"I have participated in discussions on the report with my colleagues in other jurisdictions.

 

"I am pleased that Mr Garrett attended a forum in Hobart today to outline progress on the Gonski Report.

 

 "Tasmania, like other States, has joined with the federal Department to address challenges that were set out in the Report.

 

"Work is also underway on an action plan that will include further consideration of the schooling resource standard to help disadvantaged schools.

 

"However, there is no certainty around funding.

 

"I am committed to ensuring favourable outcomes for Tasmania on the basis of the Report."
