The Minister for Education and Skills, Nick McKim, said he was pleased with discussions held today on implementing the Gonski recommendations.

Mr McKim took part in a telephone hook-up with the Federal Minister Peter Garrett and his State counterparts.

"The Commonwealth and the States have agreed to establish a School Education Funding Reform Committee to progress recommendations on school resourcing outlined in the Gonski Report," Mr McKim said.

"Ministers agreed to work constructively together to examine and progress related issues in the lead-up to the first COAG meeting next year.

"The Committee has agreed to update COAG by the end of 2012 and provide advice for the first COAG meeting in 2013.

"Meetings of the Committee will be held in October and November this year and in February 2013."
