Funding from the Tasmanian Government's War Memorial Repairs and Maintenance Grants Program will help rebuild the RSL Cenotaph in Dunalley.

The Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Scott Bacon, today announced 14 war memorials, including the Cenotaph at Dunalley, would receive grants under the $50,000 a year program.

"The recent fires destroyed the Dunalley RSL and caused severe damage to the RSL Cenotaph," said Mr Bacon.

"This grant will ensure the Dunalley community can continue to commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of their servicemen and women this Anzac Day with their memorial intact.

"The repaired RSL Cenotaph will also serve as a symbol of the capacity of the Dunalley community to once again come together to support and assist each other, just as they did during times of war."

Mr Bacon said there are more than 100 war memorials in Tasmania ranging from Cenotaphs and halls through to honour boards and plaques.

"With the approaching centenary of the First World War, the War Memorial and Maintenance Grants Program helps ensure our memorials are maintained to a standard that is fitting of their important role," he said.

The State Government established the grants program in 2010-11, and allocated $50 000 a year for three years.  Grant guidelines were developed in consultation with the Tasmanian Veterans' Advisory Council.
