Congratulations to Matt Bugg Fri 7 September 2012 Michelle O'Byrne Minister for Sport and Recreation The Minister for Sport and Recreation, Michelle O'Byrne, today congratulated sailor Matt Bugg on his strong performance at the London Paralympics. "Matt was very competitive throughout his competition and, although his ultimate goal was to come away with a medal, his seventh placing was a great effort," Ms O'Byrne said. The last race of the11-race series in the 2.4mR singlehanded class was cancelled overnight due to lack of wind and the placings awarded on the first 10 events. "I'm sure everyone at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, where Matt is based, would be proud of his overall performance." Matt is supported through the TIS sailing Elite Development Program and had his Tasmanian coach Richard Scarr go with him to London to assist with his campaign. "The Paralympics sailing series will have been a tremendous learning experience and puts Matt in good stead for future international competition. "Matt has a long and successful career in front of him and we wish him every success for the future."
