Commemorating the Battle of Crete

Sat 19 May 2012

Scott Bacon

Minister for Veterans' Affairs

The Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Scott Bacon, today joined Tasmania's Cretan and Greek communities to commemorate the 71st Anniversary of the Battle of Crete at the Hobart Cenotaph.

Mr Bacon laid a wreath at this afternoon's ceremony.

"The Battle of Crete was very important to Tasmania's Cretan and Greek communities," he said.

"For members of these communities, memories of this battle live on through the stories parents and grandparents tell of the impact of World War Two on their lives.

"It's an honour to today join with members of our Greek and Cretan communities to recognise this significant event and commemorate the brave sacrifice of the fallen."
