Code of Ethics launched for working with youth Tue 11 December 2012 Cassy O'Connor Minister for Community Development Download hi-res version The Minister for Community Development, Cassy O'Connor, today joined representatives from the Tasmanian Youth Sector at Parliament House to launch the Youth Ethics Framework for Tasmania. Ms O'Connor said the code of ethics had been developed during the past two years involving extensive consultation with the youth sector in Tasmania. "The Youth Ethics Framework for Tasmania includes 14 framework statements and practical examples to guide youth sector practice in Tasmania. "It is extremely important that ethical behaviour should apply when working with our young people. "The development of this document goes some way in acknowledging the complex and evolving nature of youth work as a profession, and the critical role youth sector workers play in our communities. "Ethical codes are often adopted by organisations to help members in understanding the difference between 'right' and 'wrong' and in applying that understanding to their work. "Ms O'Connor said the development of the code for Tasmania is aimed at enhancing youth work practice as well as the experience for young people accessing services and support. Ms O'Connor congratulated the Youth Network of Tasmania and the Youth Ethics Working Group in developing the Framework of Youth Ethics.
