Celebrating the healing power of art Tue 9 October 2012 Cassy O'Connor Minister for Human Services The Minister for Human Services, Cassy O'Connor, today paid tribute to artists whose work is being shown at this year's Minds Do Matter Art exhibition. Ms O'Connor launched the exhibition in Hobart this afternoon, which showcases the work of people who have an experience with mental illness. "Minds do Matter is an opportunity for Tasmanians who have an experience of mental illness to share their stories through art," she said. "It's a way of breaking down the stigma surrounding mental illness by giving those with first-hand experience an opportunity to provide others with an insight into that experience. "This exhibition is a testament to the resilience and strength of those artists who are willing to share their stories with others, and I would encourage people to take the time to see these inspiring artworks while they're on display. "I would also like to congratulate Aspire for their ongoing work in the mental health sector." Aspire's 'Minds Do Matter' Art Exhibition is now on display at the ABC Building in Hobart, and runs until Friday.
