Call for Nominations for the 2013 Tasmanian Honour Roll of Women Wed 8 August 2012 Cassy O'Connor Minister for Community Development The Minister for Community Development, Cassy O'Connor today encouraged the community to nominate outstanding Tasmanian women and women's organisations, past and present, for the 2013 Tasmanian Honour Roll of Women. "Tasmanian women make exceptional contributions to our diverse community and we want to recognise and celebrate their efforts, by sharing their many inspirational - and often untold - stories," Ms O'Connor said. "The Honour Roll is one way we can preserve our rich history for future generations of Tasmanian women and men. "Inductees to the Honour Roll include scientists, nurses, activists, artists, authors, business women and women who have worked tirelessly for their community in every aspect. "Previous inductees vary across many fields, such as Bea Maddock - acclaimed artist and former head of the School of Art in Launceston; Sue Napier - community advocate and former Deputy Premier, who famously suggested the campaign phrase "the best man for the job is a woman'; to Peg Putt - environmentalist, activist and former leader of the Tasmanian Greens." "Many women have not received the recognition their achievements deserve. "The Honour Roll is an ideal opportunity to showcase and celebrate the inspiring lives of Tasmanian women." Ms O'Connor said there are also many women's organisations that have made outstanding contributions to the community, and that nominations would be accepted for current and past organisations that deserve recognition on the Honour Roll. "There are many women's organisations in Tasmania's history that have been major agents of social change and made a difference in people's lives, such as the Hobart Women's Heath Centre, which has been supporting women since 1987," Ms O'Connor said. "If you know of women or women's organisations that deserve recognition for their achievements, I encourage you to nominate them for the Honour Roll. Nominations for the 2013 Honour Roll close on 28 September 2012. The nominations will be assessed by an independent judging panel.
