Premier and Minister for Education and Skills, David Bartlett, has announced the first eight Tasmanian communities where Child and Family Centres will be established.
Mr Bartlett said the centres were a groundbreaking investment in the wellbeing of Tasmanian children.
“They will bring together key services that make the most difference in the early years of a child’s life, providing a one-stop shop for children and their families,” Mr Bartlett said.
“The locations for the first eight State Government funded centres are: Risdon Cove, Ravenswood, East Devonport, Clarendon Vale, Beaconsfield, Chigwell, George Town and Queenstown.
“The Risdon Cove centre will involve the relocation of the existing Tasmanian Aboriginal Children’s Centre from West Moonah.
“These locations were chosen because they were considered areas where there is a high need for these services.”
Mr Bartlett said each centre would be developed in close consultation with the local communities to make sure it is in the right location and provides the right mix of services.
“Up to 30 child and family centres will be built around Tasmania over the next four years.
“The multi-service centres will offer a range of possible services based on community need which could include health, education and care services children from birth to school age as well as support for parents.
“They will help strengthen local communities and provide pathways to study, training and employment for parents and carers.”
“I believe these centres will play a vital role in strengthening local communities and helping to prepare our youngest Tasmanians for a healthy life and success at school,” Mr Bartlett said.
