Geeveston

On Sunday 17th July, the Premier and cabinet travelled to Geeveston for the 6th community forum of the year.

The Geeveston High School Parents and Friends association provided a substantial BBQ lunch including sandwiches, quiches and scones.

The afternoon started off on a serious note with Premier Lara Giddings easing the community’s concerns over school closures, the Esperance Multi Purpose Health Centre and the future of forestry in Tasmania.

The topic of school closures was the major issue of discussion for the afternoon’s appointments.  Productive conversations took place between the Minister for Education, the Secretary of the Education Department and the teachers, parents and friends of the local schools.

This highlights just how important these community forums are.  They ensure the highest levels of Government are available to all Tasmanians, allowing residents to meet their Government in person to share their ideas and their concerns.

Cabinet met with the Huon Valley Council on Monday 18th July to further discuss issues of importance to the Huon Valley Region.
