Education, Skills and Training

Now more than ever it is vital that we secure Tasmania’s future. That we secure the education, skills and training Tasmanians need to grasp the opportunities ahead. The 2021-22 Tasmanian Budget invests a record $8 billion to support Tasmanians to get the education, training and skills they need to secure a job and their future.

DELIVERING BETTER EDUCATION FOR TASMANIAN STUDENTS

  • $56M for disability funding to support students and to meet learner needs*
  • $3.9M for the Education Workforce roundtable including the Teacher Intern Placement Program initiative*
  • $5.3M to increase school quality literacy coaches to 40 commencing in 2022*
  • $1M to extend the 24 Carrot Gardens Project to additional three high schools and two primary schools*
  • $7M to renew and upgrade outdated classrooms statewide*
  • $4.7M to build an online assessment platform for senior secondary assessments and exams*
  • $3.8M to provide free access to speech pathologists, psychologists and social workers in family learning centres*
  • $3.75M for a new renewable energy schools program to rollout solar panels in over 100 Government schools*
  • $5.36M to employ an additional 11.4 full time Grade 4 School Health Nurses and 3 full time Grade Clinical Nurse Educators*
  • $750,000 for the new Stay ChatTY in schools program#
  • $6M to assist and support students who are impacted by trauma and help with behavioural challenges*
  • $2M to rollout a new professional development program in trauma for school leaders, teachers and teacher assistants^
  • $320,000 to roll out the free sanitary items in Government schools*
  • $250,000 to provide online professional learning for the Wellbeing Lead Teacher and Principal in every Government school
  • $15,000 for school health nurses to undertake specialised training in Youth Mental Health First aid
  • Finalise the commitment for all 57 Tasmanian High Schools offering Year 11 and 12 by 2022

NEW SCHOOLS, UPDATED SCHOOLS AND TRAINING FACILITIES

  • $4M to upgrade and expand the agricultural VET programs at Bothwell District School and Campbell Town District Schools#
  • $16.8M to deliver the new Hobart City Partner Schools project for Ogilvie and New Town High*
  • $15.1M for a major school redevelopment at Cambridge Primary School*
  • $8M towards a new multi-sports facility to be built at Bayview Secondary College in Rokeby#
  • $11M for a major redevelopment of the Exeter High School*
  • $1.5M to upgrade and reopen the Glen Dhu swimming pool
  • $6.5M for a major redevelopment of the Lauderdale Primary School#
  • $7.1M for the Montello Primary School redevelopment#
  • $16.2M to construct a brand-new purpose-build North West Support School including a hydrotherapy pool, for works and upgrades for the Southern Support School and North West Support School, Burnie Campus
  • $4.5M to support safe schools by upgrading 42 High School and District School toilets to provide safe student bathrooms*
  • $4.6M as part of the final stage of the redevelopment of the Devonport High School.
  • $624,000 for the final works associated with the $4.5M new Kindergarten at East Launceston Primary School
  • Finalisation of the $18M for the Education Act capital works reforms including new kindergarten facilities and capacity requirements for High Schools to move to Year 12
  • Finalisation of the $4.7M Lansdowne Crescent Primary School Refurbishment
  • $23.7M for the construction of a new primary school in Legana#
  • Finalisation of the $1.8M redevelopment at Montagu Bay Primary School
  • Continuation of the $50M investment to construct a new Years 7-12 Brighton High School*
  • $12.2M to complete the $20M redevelopment of Penguin District School to a Kindergarten - Year 12 school^
  • Continue the construction of the new $22M Kindergarten - Year 12 Sorell School#
  • Continue the $20M revitalisation of the Cosgrove High School*
  • Complete the $4.3M redevelopment of the Jordan River Learning Federation Farm
  • Finalise the $3M redevelopment of the Sheffield School Farm
  • Completion of the $6.8M infrastructure upgrades at Launceston College, Molesworth Environment Centre, Hellyer college and Ulverstone Primary School
  • $26.6M for six new Child and Family Learning Centres statewide, including East Tamar, Sorell, Kingborough, Glenorchy, West Ulverstone and Waratah-Wynyard#
  • Complete the $1.5M extension to Springfield Gardens Primary School
