2020-21 Budget: Continuing to improve the playing field in Tasmania

The 2020-21 Tasmanian Budget is about jobs, confidence and community and I’m pleased it will include $10 million over two years to extend our Government’s Improving the Playing Field Grants Program.

Under this program, grants of up to $250,000 will be available for approved capital works for sporting clubs and associations to upgrade facilities like change rooms, toilets and shower facilities, accessibility, lighting, security, fencing, scoreboards, drainage and other civil construction works.

This funding will assist sporting clubs and organisations as they recover and rebuild from COVID-19 and support participation rates across all sporting codes for years to come.

Funding outcomes under the small grants stream will be announced in November 2020 and distributed to successful recipients in December 2020.

Applications under the large grants stream, for up to $250,000 will be announced in January 2021, with funding to be distributed in March 2021.

I am proud of the support our Government has provided to the sport and recreation sector during COVID-19 as we have worked to keep sporting competitions alive and ready to bounce back.
