The 2019-20 State Budget is about maintaining the momentum in Tasmania and investing for growth that benefits all Tasmanians.

The Budget delivers record funding for health, education and infrastructure. That means unprecedented spending on hospitals, schools, roads, housing and job-creating infrastructure projects State-wide and in Franklin.

The Government is investing in the essential services and the infrastructure that our growing State needs, to ensure we can all benefit from a thriving economy and continue to enjoy Tasmania’s unique way of life.

Projects funded in this year’s Budget include:



KINGBOROUGH/HUON

  • 250 more beds for the Royal Hobart Hospital – staffing - $132.11 M *.
  • Royal Hobart Hospital Stage 2 Redevelopment, including expansion of the Emergency Department, ICU expansion and ward upgrades - $90.6 M.
  • State Road Upgrades – Southern region - $85.61 M *>:
    • Includes key safety upgrade projects on the Channel and Huon Highways; and
    • Diversion of Channel Highway at Huonville,
  • Urban congestion fund - $84.7 M * > - tackling congestion in Hobart.
  • Greater Hobart Traffic Solution - $71.98 M *:
    • Including a fifth lane on Hobart’s Southern Outlet with priority for buses and carpooling;
    • Changes to key arterial roads; and
    • A new peak traffic incident system, to better manage congestion.
  • Roads to support Tasmania’s visitor economy - $58.06 M:
    • Sealing Bruny Island Main Road between Alonnah and Lunawanna;
    • Sealing Hastings Cave Road; and
    • Improving Arve Road and Jeffrey’s Track
  • 27 new mental health beds in Southern Tasmania - $43.8 M.
  • 60 more nurse graduates.
  • Hobart City Deal – Kingborough Congestion - $20 M *
    • To deliver better bus facilities, congestion management technology, and more park and ride facilities around Kingston.
  • New Community Rapid Response (Hospital in the Home) service - $4.48 M *.
  • New Child and Family Learning Centre Kingborough - $3.5 M <.
  • Ambulance Tasmania – boost to State Operations Centre - $3.03 M *.
  • New Magistrate for Southern Tasmania - $2.93 M.
  • Additional Supreme Court Judge - $2.19 M.
  • Snug Primary School, new gymnasium/hall - $2.1 M *.
  • Southern Tasmania – Community Recovery Fund - $1.17 M >.
  • Taste of Tasmania support - $500,000 ^.
  • Illawarra Primary School upgrade – $450,000 *.

EASTERN SHORE

  • State Road Upgrades - $85.61 M *>:
    • $23.5 M Richmond Rd Masterplan, including new road linking Acton Rd and Richmond Rd;
    • Duplicating missing link and upgrading junctions on East Derwent Highway, Geilston Bay; and
    • Planning for access ramps to Rosny from the Tasman Highway.
  • New Southern Remand Centre - $64.8 M *.
  • Hobart Airport Interchange - $25.7 M *> – to replace the roundabout with a new flyover.
  • Additional resources Risdon Prison - $16.8 M.
  • Risdon Prison facilities upgrade - $9.34 M.
  • Trades & Water Centre of Excellence Clarence - $7 M.
  • Southern Support School upgrade - $4 M *.
  • Montagu Bay Primary School upgrade - $1.55 M *.
  • O’Hara pre-release facility, Risdon – additional units - $700,000 *.
  • Sports stadium upgrades, Clarence and Moonah - $200,000.
