The 2019-20 State Budget is about maintaining the momentum in Tasmania and investing for growth that benefits all Tasmanians.

The Budget delivers record funding for health, education and infrastructure. That means unprecedented spending on hospitals, schools, roads, housing and job-creating infrastructure projects State-wide and in Clark.

The Government is investing in the essential services and the infrastructure that our growing State needs, to ensure we can all benefit from a thriving economy and continue to enjoy Tasmania’s unique way of life.

Projects funded in this year’s Budget include:



GREATER HOBART

  • 250 more beds for the Royal Hobart Hospital – staffing - $132.11 M *.
  • Royal Hobart Hospital Stage 2 Redevelopment, including expansion of the Emergency Department, ICU expansion and ward upgrades - $90.6 M.
  • 60 more nurse graduates.
  • State Road Upgrades – Southern region - $85.61 M *>:
    • Includes planning upgrade of Domain Highway with Brooker Highway interchange to improve safety and reduce congestion.
  • Urban congestion fund - $84.7 M *>:
    • Tackling traffic congestion in Hobart; and
    • Northern Suburbs Transit Corridor.
  • Greater Hobart Traffic Vision - $71.98 M *:
    • Improving traffic flow on the Southern Outlet and Macquarie and Davey Streets;
    • Development of a Derwent River Ferry Service between Hobart-Bellerive;
    • A new Traffic Incident Response Team, with more tow trucks to better manage congestion;
    • Planning for a new Hobart Bus Transit Centre; and
    • Investigation of the costs/benefits of a Western Bypass of Hobart, via a tunnel or roads.
  • New Southern Remand Centre - $64.8 M.
  • 27 new mental health beds in Southern Tasmania - $43.8 M *.
  • Risdon Prison - additional resources - $16.8 M.
  • Revitalising Cosgrove High School - $12.5 M *.
  • Risdon Prison facilities upgrade - $9.34 M.
  • Lansdowne Crescent Primary upgrade - $4.73 M.
  • New Community Rapid Response (Hospital in the Home) service - $4.48 M *.
  • Taroona High School upgrade - $4.45 M *.
  • Southern Support School - $4 M *.
  • Ambulance Tasmania – boost to State Operations Centre - $3.03 M *.
  • New Magistrate for Southern Tasmania - $2.93 M.
  • Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens – New Visitor Centre - $2.6 M *.
  • Theatre Royal/The Hedberg completion - $2.12 M *.
  • Hobart College, refurbishing of Theatrette - $2.1 M *.
  • Additional Supreme Court Judge - $2.19 M.
  • Southern Tasmania – Community Recovery Fund - $1.178 M >.
  • Permanent Children’s exhibition at TMAG - $1 M **.
  • O’Hara pre-release facility, Risdon – additional units - $700,000 *.
  • Taste of Tasmania support - $500,000 ^.

NORTHERN SUBURBS

  • New Bridgewater Bridge - $294 M *>.
  • Glenorchy Ambulance Station - $5.9M.
  • New Child and Family Learning Centre – Glenorchy - $3.5 M <.
  • Moonah Youth Facility - $3.2 M *.
  • Analytical Services Tasmania – environmental testing - $1 M.
  • Sports stadium upgrades, Moonah and Clarence - $200,000.
