Tasmania’s thriving economy has made our State a stronger and more confident place.

The 2019-20 State Budget is about maintaining the momentum in Tasmania and investing for growth that benefits all Tasmanians.

The Budget delivers record funding for health, education and infrastructure. That means unprecedented spending on hospitals, schools, roads, housing and job-creating infrastructure projects State-wide and in Bass.

The Government is investing in the essential services and the infrastructure that our growing State needs, to ensure we can all benefit from a thriving economy and continue to enjoy Tasmania’s unique way of life.

Projects funded in this year’s Budget include:



LAUNCESTON

  • LGH major redevelopment – continuation of $87.3 M project plus $5 M for more car parking.
  • Launceston and Tamar Valley Traffic Vision - $74.69 M:
    • Increasing the Charles Street Bridge capacity;
    • Batman Highway shoulder widening; and
    • Planning for a second Tamar River Bridge.
  • Relocation of University of Tasmania to Inveresk - $50 M *
  • New Northern Prison - $45.3 M *~.
  • State Road Upgrades – North - $44.98 M *:
    • New overtaking lanes on Tasman Highway at Myrtle Park;
    • Improvements to Bridport and Waterhouse Roads; and
    • Improvements to Launceston’s gateway.
  • Opening and staffing of eight new beds on Ward 4K of the LGH - $15.06 M *.
  • 40 more nurse graduates.
  • New Legana Primary School - $15 M *.
  • Riverside High School, completion of modernised facilities - $7.1 M *.
  • Mowbray Corridor – new roundabout at the Connector - $6 M *.
  • New Child and Family Learning Centre – East Tamar - $3.5 M >.
  • Mona Foma - $3.5 M *.
  • East Launceston Primary School, completion of upgrade - $2.3 M *.
  • Move 100 DPIPWE staff to north and north-west – $2.0 M *.
  • Northern Tasmanian Tennis Centre - $2 M.
  • Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre Support - $800,000.
  • Elphin Sports Centre roof replacement - $400,000.
  • Karinya Mums and Bubs - $400,000.
  • Festivale - $380,000 *.
  • Northern Tasmania Arts Program - $200,000.

REGIONAL BASS

  • West Tamar Highway Traffic Solution – safer junctions and widening - $11.2 M *.
  • V8 Supercars - $6.03 M *.
  • Scottsdale Northbourne Extension - $1.3 M.
  • Flinders Island health infrastructure and patient transport - $420,000 *.
  • Flinders Island Business Inc. Support – dedicated officer.
  • Bass Strait Islands biosecurity officers - $390,000.
