2019-20 Budget: Reducing red tape for planning and building
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to making it easier, faster and cheaper for Tasmanians to build by reducing red tape and streamlining building processes.
This year’s State Budget is about maintaining the momentum and investing for growth, and the Planning and Building Portal project will help underpin this focus through the cutting of red tape for the construction industry and further streamline development in Tasmania.
The Australian and Tasmanian Governments have committed $9.7 million to the project, which is due for completion in by 2021.
The 2019-20 Budget includes the $6.4 million in funding provided by the Commonwealth through the Small Business Regulatory Reform Agenda, an initiative which aims to support improved government services for small business and reduce compliance costs.
As a result of this funding agreement, four additional reform projects will be delivered as part of the portal’s roll out:
The portal will deliver a single statewide system that integrates all planning, building and related approvals, and provides greater industry and homeowners to real time access valuable land development information.
