2019-20 Budget: Maintaining the Momentum, Investing for Growth in the South

Tasmania has come a long way in the past five years. Our economic growth leads the nation, almost 13,000 more Tasmanians have found a job, and our reputation as a visitor destination and producer of world-class produce has never been stronger.

But there is still more to do. And that’s why the 2019-20 State Budget is all about Maintaining the Momentum and Investing for Growth

Importantly, this budget delivers on our plan to grow the economy, create jobs, invest in essential services and protect the Tasmanian way of life.

Specific Budget measurers to Maintain the Momentum in the South total more than $860 million including:

  • Royal Hobart Hospital Stage 2 redevelopment - $90.6 million
  • Additional staff for the Royal Hobart Hospital’s 250 new beds - $132.1 million
  • 27 new mental health beds - $43.8 million
  • Cosgrove High School redevelopment - $12.5 million
  • Taroona High School upgrade - $4.45 million
  • Lansdown Crescent Primary upgrade $4.73 million
  • Delivering the Greater Hobart Traffic Vision - $71.98 million
  • Delivering State Road upgrades - Southern Region - $85.61 million
  • Upgrading the Glenorchy ambulance station - $5.9 million
  • Delivering the new Southern multi-sports facility - $9.95 million
  • Additional staff for Risdon Prison - $16.8 million
  • Southern Remand Centre redevelopment - $64.8 million
  • Risdon Prison facilities upgrade - $9.34 million
  • O'Hara pre-release facility, Risdon, Additional units - $700,000
  • Boosting the Ambulance Tasmania State Operations Centre - $3.02 million
  • Implementing the Hobart City Deal - $1.6 million
  • Hobart College theatrette refurbishment - $2.1 million
  • New Magistrate for Southern Tasmania - $2.93 million
  • Supporting the Taste of Tasmania - $500,000
  • Building the new Royal Botanical Gardens visitor centre - $2.6 million
  • Moonah and Clarence sports stadium upgrades - $200,000
  • Bridgewater Bridge - $294 million

We have come a long way in the past five years and the 2019-20 State Budget ensures that the momentum is maintained and we are investing strategically so all Tasmanians share in a growing, prosperous State.
