2019-20 Budget: Investing in our Parks and Reserves

The State Budget 2019-20 invests in protecting and showcasing our spectacular National Parks and reserves.

We are investing $31 million over four years to future-proof our tourism infrastructure and enhance the experiences for locals and visitors.

This funding continues to deliver our commitment to boost National Parks Rangers and frontline staff, as well as improving infrastructure and boosting maintenance.

In addition to these investments, we are also delivering significant new visitor experience projects in our Parks. This includes $80 million to revitalise visitor facilities and facilitate the development of the Cradle Mountain cableway.

$20 million is in the State Budget to progress the Government’s Next Iconic Walk initiative to deliver Tasmania’s next iconic multi-day, hut-based walk.

$200,000 is allocated in 2019-20 to continue the Aboriginal Joint Management of Reserves initiative, which supports programs to ensure the extraordinary Aboriginal cultural values of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area are appropriately recognised. Six Aboriginal Trainee Rangers have already been appointed to work in national parks and other reserves in Tasmania.

The 2019-20 State Budget continues the Tasmanian Government’s strong commitment to showcasing and preserving our State’s spectacular natural environment.
