2019-20 Budget: $2.75 million to grow Tasmania’s defence industry
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to growing our defence supply industries and that’s why the 2019-20 State Budget includes $2.75 million over four years to support our Tasmanian Defence Strategy.
Building on the momentum already gained in recent years, this strategy and funding will assist local business and industry to win more defence contracts in areas such as advanced manufacturing, food technology, health sciences, ICT, and remote area capability for both domestic and international export markets.
Since we first launched the defence strategy we have already seen Tasmanian companies score multi-million dollar supply contracts, supporting the next generation of advanced manufacturing jobs around our state.
This Government’s focus on our local defence industry will see Tasmania’s reputation for high-quality niche products grow around the world and will give more Tasmanian businesses the confidence and opportunity to take a bigger slice of the market.
Our 2019-20 State Budget is about maintaining the momentum and investing for growth, and growing our defence industry is an important part of those efforts.
