Supporting Principals to support students

19 May 2017

Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Education and Training

The Hodgman Liberal Government is Building Tasmania’s Future with our goal to lead the nation in education and create a job ready generation of young Tasmanians.

Our school principals play a key role in this, providing the necessary school and community leadership to ensure our young people get the best education possible.

The health and safety of our principals is a priority of this Government, and has been highlighted as an area needing attention, such as through the Tasmanian Principals Association and the Riley Report.

That is why, with the Budget back in balance, next week’s Budget will include $70,000 per annum over four years, for research and funding for health and safety.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to lifting Tasmanian education and providing students with the best opportunities, and properly resourcing schools with support teachers and leaders is part of our Plan.

Working with the Department of Education and the Tasmanian Principals Association, this money will fund professional development, and help promote a safe and healthy work environment for principals across Government schools.
